How to enable/disable Apps to change their screen orientationSocialTwist Tell-a-Friend

There are times when you dont want  Safari or other apps like iPod to rotate automatically. It frustates a lot when the screen orientation is changed to landscape while on lying on a bed even id we don’t want the screen to rotate. Since apple doesn’t provides any way to control this, But thanks there is a tweak in cydia by name Rotation Inhibitor that allows enablng/disabling interface rotation.
Rotation Inhibitor is a SBSettings toggle so you wont see any icons on your springboard. Once you disable this toggle Safari, iPod, Messages and other apps that changes the screen orientation will not able to do so.
Rotation Inhibitor is available on cydia under ispazio repo for free.

Samsung adds first volume 40nm 4Gb DDR3 modules in industry to lineSocialTwist Tell-a-Friend

Samsung has been very big on new green memory products for servers and other computer systems recently. Earlier this month Samsung was touting its new 30nm DDR3 DRAM modules as the greenest in the industry. Samsung is now announcing the industry’s first volume production 40nm DDR3 4Gb modules.

samsungddr3 sg

The new DDR3 RAM modules are aimed at use in data centers, servers, and high-end notebooks. The RAM is focused on low-power, which equates to less power consumption in the data center and longer battery life in notebooks. Samsung reports that its new RAM will help OEMs meet or exceed Energy Star power consumption ratings.
Samsung plans to move almost 90% of its DDR DRAM production to the 40nm process. A server that uses a 40nm 2Gb DDR3 module right now consumes 55W of power whereas the same server using 40nm 4Gb DDR3 modules consumes 36W. The new modules will be offered in 1.5V and 1.35V varieties.

Casio’s GPS camera coming in OctoberSocialTwist Tell-a-Friend

I don’t get GPS in cameras. There have been times (not many, but there have) when I’ve been out taking pictures and don’t necessarily want the whole world to know where I was. Casio’s new EX-10HG camera is going to take that option away from me, with their new GPS-enabled point and shoot camera.
My confusion aside, the Casio EX-10HG originally showed up as a concept camera at CES 2010, but was confirmed by a rep at PMA 2010 that they will be coming out this October, and will retail for about $400. No doubt they’ll sell a ton of them, and then we’ll all know where those family snapshots were taken.

Nokia X10 Symbian^3 Handset Gets Leaked; Nokia’s Lack of Interest for MWC Detailed

Nokia X10 Symbian^3 Handset Gets Leaked; Nokia’s Lack of Interest for MWC DetailedSocialTwist Tell-a-Friend

We knew something was missing from MWC 2010, in Barcelona this week and yes, it might have been Nokia. Although they announced the MeeGo platform together with Intel, they did it in a separate exhibition and have shown zero new handsets during MWC. This is quite a disappointment, coming from the biggest handset maker, but at least we’ve got this Nokia X10 leak, shown below.

Also, no big news related to Symbian, aside from it going open source. It’s really sad to see the “biggest smartphone OS in the world” getting a 10 square meter booth in the back corner of Hall 1 during MWC 2010 and not a single new device to run the platform. What’s happening to Nokia?
Back to the leak, we learn that Nokia X10 is a Symbian^3 device, that packs a sliding QWERTY keyboard, multiple homescreens with auto rotation, a 600 MHz ARM Cortex A8 processor, a 3.2 inch AMOLED capacitive touch display, 32 or 16GB of internal memory and 256MB RAM. HSDPA, WiFi and A-GPS are also on the specs list, together with a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash.
Here’s a video detailing the leaked device. Could it be a fake?

Windows Phones Series Is OfficialSocialTwist Tell-a-Friend

Microsoft have finally unveiled their long awaited 7 series operating system, Windows Phone Series 7 to give it its full title. They've comepletely rebuilt their platform from the ground up and 7 does away with the old familiar look of previous incarnations such as the Start screen. Just to emphasise that point, this isn't just a new version of WinMo, this is a brand new OS. It's very Zune like in appearance and definitely much more finger friendly. The home screen is a now a series of large icons and widgets, which can be customised to suit user tastes and which scroll vertically up and down. Social networking features prominently with integrated contacts showing status updates from different services and easy access to things like picture galleries. It's not just the software that's being touted here hough, Microsoft have become a lot more stringent on hardware with dictate son specifications like which processor to use, screen resolution etc. Perhaps most interestingly thi s fully translates to their hardware partners with customisations like HTC's SENSE UI out the window. There will be a single interface from now on. In terms of partners Microsoft have signed up a collection of networks from around the world and manufacturers including Sony Ericsson, LG and of course HTC.

The only new phone that Motorola announced at MWC 2010 (until now, anyway) is the Motorola Quench, which will be known in the US as Motorola Cliq XT (launched by T-Mobile).
Previously appeared as Motorola Zeppelin, the Quench / Cliq XT is an Android 1.5 smartphone with MotoBlur. Let’s hope it will be updated soon to a newer version of Android – otherwise, it might not be able to quench users’ thirst for a modern OS.
The Motorola Quench / Cliq XT is the eighth Android device unveiled by Moto globally.
Its features include: 3.1 HVGA touchscreen display with pinch and zoom capabilities, a front navigation touchpad, HSDPA, Wi-Fi, A-GPS, E-compass, virtual QWERTY keyboard, Bluetooth 2.0, 3.5mm headset jack, WebKit browser, Adobe Flash Lite, MicroSD card support, and a 5.0 megapixel autofocus camera with LED flash. The phone measures 116.7 x 59.4 x 12.3 mm and has a 1420 mAh battery that should be able to provide a talk-time of up to 6.5 hours.

nec NEC camera engine for camera phones provides high quality images comparable to digital still cameras

NEC has introduced a new camera engine CE 151 system-on-chip (SoC) for camera phones, with the idea to enable modern handsets to take high-quality images comparable to digital-still cameras. The CE 151 has an improved noise-reduction function for minimizing distortion caused by lenses, as well as the latest generation 1.1 micron sensors for recording still images and video frames. In addition, the upcoming camera phones equipped with CE 151 will be able to output full-HD (1080p) video stream and still image data up to 13 megapixels received by the CMOS sensor!
And that’s not all – energy consumption is approximately 25% lower than the existing CE143 product offering, while backward compatibility with previous NEC Electronics’ CE series products is preserved…

Sagem Orga and Telefonica turn the SIM card into a Wi-Fi hotspotSocialTwist Tell-a-Friend

Sagem Orga and Telefonica are enhancing mobile broadband services by offering “SIMFi”, the first SIM card with integrated Wi-Fi. By turning the SIM card into a Wi-Fi hotspot, Sagem Orga and Telefonica have developed a solution without all these hurdles. An embedded WLAN modem in the SIM card, driven by the SIM toolkit applets running in the SIM, will enable Telefonica to broadcast High Speed Packet Access (HSPA) Internet access through Wi-Fi to notebooks and netbooks. The new generation USIM card “SIMFi” can be inserted in any type of classic handset to act as a universal and interoperable HSPA/Wi-Fi router for any device.

“We strongly believe that SIMFi, with its unprecedented functionality for wireless access, will significantly improve the user experience,” explained Remy Cricco, Technology Innovation Manager at Sagem Orga. “If customers can connect their notebooks to the Web anytime and anywhere by simply using what they have with them most of the time and what is the most trusted secure device – the SIM card – adoption can be expected to be enormous.”

Keyboard lets you edit YouTube videos like a pro
Any video pro will tell you that for quick accurate video editing, there's nothing quite like having a real jog/shuttle wheel. Sure, all of the popular video editing software like Windows Movie Maker and Apple iMovie have on screen interfaces that let you do the same basic things, but they still require that you use a mouse and cursor to control things. The GR100 keyboard adds a classic style jog/shuttle wheel that you turn to move quickly through a clip, with an inner dial to locate the exact frame you want. A set of buttons around the dial provides shortcuts to all of the essential editing functions.
The GR100 is made by the Korean video software company CodeAct, so naturally it works with their GReditor, along with other popular edit suites like Adobe Premiere and Pinnacle Studio. It's available in both Japanese and English versions for a pretty hefty $275.

HP Spain have announced a new smartbook, the Compaq Airlife 100, with a netbook-style form factor, 10.1-inch touchscreen and integrated 3G.  While HP aren’t spilling the beans on the Airlife 100’s chipset, last we heardthey were playing with Qualcomm’s 1GHz Snapdragon, so it seems a reasonable assumption.

Elsewhere there’s a 16GB SSD and WiFi along with the 3G connection, while HP also reckon the frugal smartbook will be leggy enough to last for 12 hours on a single charge.  Alternatively standby is tipped at 10 days.
From the photos it’s obvious that there’s a webcam and an SD card slot, together with some useful shortcut keys around the trackpad; HP have also loaded up their own touchscreen UI.  According to the company, the Compaq Airlife 100 will arrive in Europe this spring, as a subsidized deal with carrier Telefonica.  No word of a US launch or any pricing details.
